Wabash High School Selected to Implement Successful High School Program

P-CAP program supports students in danger of dropping out of high school through smaller class sizes, hands-on learning, career pathways and stackable credentials


Wabash, IN–Wabash High School has been selected as one of three schools in northeast Indiana to implement the transformative Indiana Pathways to Careers and Postsecondary (P-CAP) model, developed by the Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning (CELL) at the University of Indianapolis. With an $805,000 grant from the Don Wood Foundation, this initiative will expand to Wabash High School, Angola High School, and Madison-Grant Junior-Senior High School. Winchester Community High School, already a P-CAP success story, will mentor these new partner schools. The program has shown promising results, including a 28% GPA increase and a 5% attendance boost among the first cohort.


P-CAP is designed to re-engage high school students who are at risk of dropping out by providing them with relevant, hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for high-skill, high-wage careers. Students will have access to Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways, industry credentials, and dual college credits. Thanks to the Don Wood Foundation's support, Wabash High School will expand its advanced manufacturing pathway and create a dedicated P-CAP classroom with state-of-the-art equipment. This initiative not only aims to enhance student engagement but also to produce skilled workers for the local economy, fostering stronger ties between education and industry.
